The Story Behind Good Morning Black Man
While attending a retreat in May of 2023 in the North Georgia mountains, I was hiking along the creek that ultimately ends up at a waterfall. I was immersed in nature, surrounded by trees so tall, I had to bend my neck all the way to look up at them. My heart was overwhelmed with so many emotions, I didn't know what to do with them. I planned to sit by the waterfall and journal, just to see if I could make some sense of what I was going through.
Before I got to the waterfall, I crossed several small bridges. While crossing one, I noticed how quickly the creek was moving across the rocks, making such a beautiful soundtrack for my journey to the waterfall. I decide to sit on this bridge, and record the water. As I sat to record the water, I found myself speaking...
"Good morning, black man. You beautiful, strong, sexy, powerful, capable black man. Do you know, that I love you...."
And on went this outpouring of love, adoration, and motivation for 4 minutes and 10 seconds. On that bridge, I gave birth to "Good Morning, Black Man".
Every morning that I avail myself to record a message, I find that the words that come to me are as much for my benefit as yours. These recordings are the messages that I need to hear, too. And recording them requires me to sit, be still, meditate, and ground myself in the present moment. These are both my love letters to you and my moments with God. Because the God in me sees and honors the God in you. My divine feminine offers to your divine masculine a daily opportunity to come together and be still.
